After
you enter the access code, you will be taken to your Home (root)
directory. It
lists all the folders and files you have in your NoteHere account. In
this window, you can navigate around your folders, copy/cut and paste
files and folders as you do in Windows Explorer. You can also rename
and delete files and folders as wanted.
However, don't be confused that these files and folders are not in your
computer, and you won't be able to find them in your computer.

The
following are some typical examples:
- Go into a sub-folder:
Double click the folder.
- Go back to the
previous folder: Click the Left
Arrow button.
- Go forward to the
next folder: Click the Right
Arrow button.
- Go to a parent
folder: Click the Up Arrow
button.
- Go back to the Home
directory: You can go back to your home directory at any time by
clicking the Home button
- To copy files or
folders: Highlight the files or folders you want to copy. Click
the Edit menu and select Copy. Highlight or double
click to go into the destination folder, then click the Edit menu and select Paste.
- To move files or
folders to another location: Same as copy/paste (above) except
you selct Cut instead of Copy.
- To create a new
folder: Click the Create a
New Folder button, or right click the blank area and select New Folder.
- To create a new file:
Click the Create a New Note File
button, or right click the blank area and select New File.

| Create or Edit a Note File |
When you click the Create
a New Note File button to create a new note, or double click an
exisitng note file, you open a new Editor window as shown below.
This window is very similar to other word processing tools. It has a
set of standard functions allowing you to format your note files into
elegent documents and print them. You can paste images, spreadsheets,
powerpoint slides, or even audio/video clips into you note files.
However, these objects usually make the files too big to save on
the Internet, so they should be limited to the minimum.
When you click the Save in NoteHere button, the file content will be
encrypted using the Encryption Key you supplied and saved to your
NoteHere account. The files stay encrypted in your NoteHere account.
Nobody will be able to open your files unless you share your encryption
key with someone else.
If this is a new note file, you will be prompted for a new file name as
shown below. Try to use letters and digits to maintain the maximum
compatibility.
If you haven't entered an encryption key, you will be prompted to
choose one. An encryption key is just another way of calling a password
(although they are technically different). An encryption key is
associated with a name, something like "Mother's Maid Name". You should
choose a good key name that will help you remember the encryption key,
but it should not allow others to guess the encryption key easily.
WARNING: You should
never forget the encryption key. Otherwise, you will never be able to
open your files.
|
| Open Exclusive |
If you are in a multi-user account and share files
with other people, you can use the Open
Exclusive feature to avoid files being overwritten by others.
When you right click a file and select Open Exclusive to open a file, you
have locked up that file. Other people whom you share the file with
will not be able to open the file until you close the editor window.
If you indeed need to modify a file that has been locked by others, you
should save your data in a separate file temporarily. When the file is
released and become available, you then open the file and merge your
changes into the file.
|
| Save a Local Copy |
After you open a file in the editor window, you can
click the File menu and
select Save a Local Copy to
save a copy of the file into your computer or other storage devices
such as a flash drive. The saved file can be opened with other software
such as Word that supports RTF (Rich Text Format) files.
WARNING: Files saved in your computer are not
encrypted, and therefore it is up to you to protect them.
|
| Open Local |
RTF files created by other software in your computer
such as Word can be saved (uploaded) into your account NoteHere, so
that you can access it from other locations.
To do this, click the File menu
and select Open Local.
The file will be loaded into the Editor window. On the Editor window,
click the Save button. The
file will be encrypted and saved in your NoteHere account.
|
| Change Encryption Key |
When
you try to open a note file, you will be prompted to enter the
encryption key that the file has been encrypted with. If you enter it
correctly, the file will be opened in the Editor window, and the name
of the encryption key will be displayed in the bottom of the Editor
window.
You can change the key by clicking the Change button and enter a new key.
This key will be used to encrypt files when you save a file. So it is a
good idea to check the key in display when you save a file. Make sure
that is what you want to use to encrypt the file.
